Full Position Description

McKissack & McKissack, an outgrowth of the oldest African American-owned architecture engineering in the country, has a strong reputation for consistently delivering results on high-profile projects for government and private sector clients.

Your ROLE (High level):

The Vice President will report directly to the Senior Vice President of Operations and the Chief Growth Officer in communication Washington, DC Headquarters office. The leader will be a team player, with excellent internal and external communication skills. This position plans, organizes, and directs the activities of his/ her respective area to achieve the objectives of the business to maximize returns and minimize risk for the company. Operations include design management, program management, project, and construction management. This will include the hiring/assignment of personnel who exhibit humble, hungry, and smart attributes. The VP of PMCM is responsible for teaming partner selection, execution of the work, and monitoring the progress of each project to ensure financially successful resolutions. This leader will demonstrate fiscal responsibility as well as guide all operations for the region, budget development, revenue, profit loss, marketing, and business development.  

The position requires excellent verbal and written communication skills, with an emphasis on the ability to organize and present information to our clients. Specifically, the VP will build new client relationships and maintain existing ones to ensure a steady flow of Requests for Proposals (RFPs) and repeat business opportunities. They will work with our marketing department to prepare responses to RFPs including, preparation of technical fee proposals (including management and resourcing), preparation and delivery of interviews, development of marketing packages, participation in internal marketing meetings to coordinate and support business development activities with other offices, and assist other offices as required in the pursuit of work.

Your Role (Responsibilities):

•  Develop, implement, and execute a strategic businessplan and budget for the DC Metro Area, including achievement of assignedmetrics such as those related to financial forecasts and customer satisfaction.

•  Drive the operational performance and capabilities to surpass customer satisfaction, retention, and company goals.

•  Provide management and oversight to staff, as well as lead the recruitment and on-boarding of new staff.    

•  In conjunction with the corporate office, approve advertising and marketing campaigns; communicate and collaborate with sales and marketing teams to promote and sell new projects, programs, and systems.    

•  Develop and evaluate project opportunities, develop fee proposals, conduct cost analysis, estimate expected costs for the project, prepare proposals and implement a budget based on estimates.    

•  Provide leadership, vision, and direction for multiple aspects of the practice, including our core services: Design (Architecture and Engineering) Program, Project and Construction Management, Contracts, Field Operations, Environmental Compliance, Safety, Development, and Implementation of new services to maintain a competitive corporate advantage.

• Provide executive oversight for all PMCM projects, while increasing operating performance.    

• Serve as our corporate liaison between our field and in-house staff, maintain regular communication with staff, provide team-building opportunities, as well as create individual professional development plans and career-track in conjunction with the Talent Manager.

• Collaborate and effectively work with the Executive Team and support staff.    

• Promote a team-oriented approach to responsible management of the Practice.    

• Oversee an interdisciplinary team to ensure projects are completed on time and to specifications.

• Manage all aspects of the project from securing personnel and managing capital assets to achieving financial results.    

• Delegate work and assignments to team members based onexpertise, work experience, and time constraints.

• Maintain knowledge of relevant industry trends,developments, new technologies, and market conditions.

• Provide revenue targets and profit and loss accountability for portfolio of work.

What We NEED You to Have:

• Bachelor's degree (or greater) in Architecture, Engineering, or Construction Management.    

• Professional Engineer (PE) or Registered Architect (RA) with AIA affiliation is preferred.  

• 5+ years in an elevated construction role as a Project Executive, Director, or VP.

• Thorough understanding of fiscal and human resource management techniques.    

• Knowledge of compliance requirements and governmental regulations.    

• Ability to produce sales and implement marketing strategies.    

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to develop and present comprehensive reports.  

• Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and organizational skills.    

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a proven ability to exercise initiative, judgment, and discretion.
